FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers!)

Q: What if I'm not sure of how many races I will be able to attend?
A: Pick the membership level that fits what you think you can make; you can always upgrade your level before the end of January.

Q: How many races do I need to attain a result in to be considered in the overall awards?
A: There is no minimum or maximum number of races necessary to be considered in the overall; the highest point holder will win. Note that there are several different race series in MWM and many different awards and recognitions!

Q: What is the Ironman?
A: The Male and Female racer with the most starts - regardless of finish result - will be awarded the Ironman award and have their names etched on the trophy.

Q: What races are considered in the overall?
A: All USSA-sanctioned races except the National Qualifier.

Q: What is the definition of a "race"?
A: A race is defined as the combined time of two runs. You must finish two runs to be considered in the result and to attain result points. Super-G and Downhill are single-run events, but these events are only hosted in the east and west for obvious reasons.

Q: What races are not included in my race fee?
A: The only races that are not included are the Central Masters Championships and the Buck Hill Dash for Cash. Other races may be added to to the MWM schedule during the season that are not administered by MWM. These races are also not included.

Q: Do I have to register before each race?
A: If you are a member, you must check in at each race. This can be done online (see the Schedule page). If you have used up the races in your MWM membership package, or are not a MWM member, you will need to register and pay an individual race fee at the race.

Q: What if I am late for a race?
A: Contact the Race Director or any Race Crew member as quickly as possible and get ready to race! You may need to run DFL.

Q: Do I need a USSA Membership to race with Midwest Masters?
A: Yes, The USSA membership is required for insurance purposes and to have our races recognized on a national level.

Q: Can I try a race to see if I like Midwest Masters Racing?
A: Yes, a temporary USSA license can be obtained, and a one-time MWM Race Registration fee can be paid.

Q: With my USSA Masters license can I do other Masters races around the country?
A: Yes! You will need to contact the race office that is handling the race you would like to attend. Much of this information can be found in the USSA Competition Guide on the USSA website. One of the greatest advantages of Masters racing is the ability to race all over the country and Canada. Many MWM racers compete all over the nation as well as internationally!
